I’m Ryan Berk, the owner and Captain of Salty Grunt Sportfishing. Prior to my start in the charter business, I have experience as a Combat wounded Veteran in the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division and as a municipal Police Officer. I started Salty Grunt Sportfishing in hopes of introducing other Veterans and First Responders to the benefits of a day at sea and the love of saltwater sportfishing, as well as anyone interested in getting out on the water. I am a U.S.C.G. licensed Captain and have been fishing the Wildwood & Cape May waters for several years, both recreationally and competitively with my team. My philosophy is whether you're a first timer, a seasoned "old salt," or a family looking for quality time together on the water, any day fishing is a good day!
If you're looking for a Captain to put you on a relaxing, fun filled time on the water catching fish, all while in good company, look no further and book us now! Fishing is my passion and I'm looking forward to having you on board to share it with you!

Sit back, relax, and have fun! The Salty Grunt Experience aims to produce lifelong memories with family and friends on the water. Although our goal is to always put you on the fish, we understand there are days when they're just not biting. Because of that, Captain Ryan always ensures all passengers are fully satisfied with the efforts to catch, and to cater to all of your needs. Quality is our priority, whether you decide to fish the entire duration, cruise, or simply anchor and relax. The captain will take any and all requests prior to launch to ensure you truly have a great experience. If you have any questions or requests prior to booking, please do not hesitate to ask! In addition to our family friendly trips, we also cater and encourage Veterans, First Responders, and their families to join us. As a LEO/Veteran owned & operated business, we understand the importance of being able to decompress while being surrounded with like-minded people! Tog, also known as black fish, are primarily caught in late fall through winter and early spring. For tog, we typically use conventional rigs with bait, although jigs are a fun alternative!
Flounder are our most commonly caught species. Flounder are targeted in late spring through late summer. For flounder, conventional rigs with live bait may be used, however we prefer to use bucktails with an assortment of strip baits and artificial baits!
Black drum are our largest targeted inshore species, and they can put up a great fight! Drum are targeted in early May until mid June. For Drum, we typically use conventional rigs with fresh clams for bait. Although it is a short window, when the bite is on fire, its a blast!
Sea Bass are typically targeted in late spring, and then again in the fall and early winter. When you find a school of bass they can fill your limit quick! For Sea Bass, we typically use conventional rigs with clams for bait.
Although not typically our target, other species of fish that live in our waters that we sometimes go after include Blue Fish, Trigger Fish, Mahi, Striped Bass and more! Don't be surprised if you also encounter some by-catch such as small sharks, skates, sea robins, rays or dogfish
